The Spanish Navy got involned in a series of nearly continuous campaings during the last third of the 18th century. This was because of its outstanding role in the foreign affairs of the Catholic Crown. This way, the Crown carried out an important recruiting action, mainly from coastal áreas in the Península. Where Andalucía and most of all, Galicia, contributed remarkabiy. The hard living conditions aboard the ships had more devastating effects on these crews than the armed confrontations.
